Australian Adventure Bike

Issue 35
Magazine

Our goal in ULTIMATE ADVENTURE BIKE AUSTRALIA is to appreciate everyone that’s having a crack — big or small — and enjoying whatever it is that’s an adventure to you. Hopefully, along the way we can steer you in the right direction (pun kinda intended) and bring to the fore just how much fun and how liberating adventure riding is. The adventure bike scene is one of the most vibrant across the globe and nowhere is it more relevant than in this vast sunburnt country. We were built by adventurers and the need to explore is in our blood. There’s never been a better time to do it on a motorcycle with an amazing array of machines and gear available for all. And now they’re finding freedom once again on bikes that take them back in bush and well beyond, in a less aggressive environment. Now is the time to reach those riders. Readers will be treated to the highest quality photography and journalism with bike tests and bucketlist rides leading the features. Each issue will also have dedicated ride tutorials and handy on track how to’s and will be chockas full of gear and accessories that we know this audience loves.

X MARKS THE SPOT • Slowly but surely, the Chinese invasion into mainstream motorcycling is advancing, and in the adventure bike corner of the world, it’s CFMOTO that’s been leading the charge Down Under. The 450MT has proven a runaway sales success in Australia and now its bigger brother, the 800MT-X, is here to seriously shake things up in the mid-size-capacity market.

NEW HORIZONS • KTM is back from the brink, thanks to a massive cash injection from its longtime manufacturing partner, Indian motorcycle brand Bajaj. So it’s only fitting that two of the newest machines to herald the ‘reborn’ KTM brand are the Bajaj-built 390 Enduro R and 390 Adventure R. We headed to the NSW south coast to sample both bikes at their Australian launch.

FESTIVUS TO THE MAXIMUS • The annual ABR Festival in the UK stands head and shoulders above the pack as the biggest gathering of adventure riders anywhere in the world. And what a massive festival it is!

HARD YAKKA • A double-crossing of Australia, combined with an assault on the famed Canning Stock Route in WA, is the kind of riding assignment that cannot be taken lightly. As six mates discovered when they took aim on the adventure of a lifetime.

FOLLOW THE LEADER • When the action of the International BMW GS Trophy event is over, there’s actually still plenty more to come with BMW’s Follow the Trails tours, which give the public the chance to ‘try’ sections of the GS Trophy course. Last year in Namibia, Aussie Miles Davis was not only a marshal for the GS Trophy event, he then stayed on to lead the tours.

TET TRAVELS • How good is the riding on the Trans Euro Trail? Good enough for this trio of Brits to keep bikes in Europe so they can fly in and out every month or so to take on another section of adventure riding action. What a great plan!

IBERIAN INSPIRATIONS • The Iberian Peninsula is comprised of Spain and Portugal, two of the oldest...
