HOW THE WESTERN WAS WON

BEGINNING NOW

WHOOPEE CUSHION

Tony Curtis 1925–2010 • When Houdini was released in 1953, Tony Curtis already had worked on 16 movies, but it was his portrayal of the master illusionist that set him on the road to stardom. He worked in more than 140 films in virtually every genre, from Some Like It Hot (in which he and Jack Lemmon famously appeared in drag) to The Defiant Ones, for which he earned his only Oscar nomination. His pretty-boy charm made him a heartthrob, but his undeniable acting chops kept him in the cinema spotlight.
